A new supplement range

Hello,

Some of you may not know, but I have started my own sports supplement line. After many years of building other people's companies, I am know on my own with some very cutting edge products (if you will). I have attached a few of the ads that I am launching in Flex...feedback appreciated. I will be looking to start shipping on around the 17th of this month.

I hope all of you are doing well!!!

If anyone can help, please do so

I have heard through the training world about some new supplements hitting the market that will bind the hormone myostatin. In doing so the this would block or rather hinder the production in myostatin and you can achieve incredible mass. Champion Nutrition has there own product called myostim. I have been reading up on this quite a bit. Now here is where I have a problem. I have asked Champion Nutrition to give me Something harder than Three mice and one bull for proof. I then began to ask about side affects, long term usage, organ enlarging, and so on. I sent them three e-mails. I received only one back that stated. Your e-mail has been forwarded to our research development team and we will get back to you. I have heard nothing from them. What can you tell me about this. I have conversed with Lance Norton and he believes this stuff is crap. If you have any info at all I would greatly appreciate it. I never take a supplement that I don't research first. So if anyone can help, please do so. If you cannot then I would greatly appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction..

Thanks Patrick

Readers - if anyone can share information with Patrick on this, please send it to us!

I've seen so much of Mr. King on screen lately that I feel I've found a new friend/mentor!

Mr & Mrs King,

I first heard of your program from a friend of mine who raved about it. After a bit of searching, I finally found you and decided to order a bunch of items (in for a penny....). Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. The book and videos were thorough! I'm going to have to watch them again over the next couple of weeks (finish my current 9w cycle and then break a week) before I kick off my first 12w program. One thing that I've applied immediately with excellent results is your recovery concepts. Mea Culpa to over-training. I now understand why I would "burn-out" about mid-way through my 9w cycles and be forced to take a break. Needless to say that has been corrected with excellent results. If I gather nothing else from your book/videos, then it will have been money well spent. Thank You I've seen so much of Mr. King on screen lately that I feel I've found a new friend/mentor. :-)

Thanks again! Rainer Thomas

Part 3 : What is the history of creatine use?

Here is Part 3 of a series of articles using chapters from my no longer available book ' Creatine : A guide for athletes and coaches', in this newsletter.

----------------------------

Creatine has only been promoted in sporting circles via sports science research since about 1992, but the following table shows a surprisingly long history for creatine.

A summary of the historical literature on creatine.

Year   Observation/Conclusion

1832 Creatine was first discovered in 1832 by the  French scientist Chevreul.
1847 An observer noted that the meat from foxes killed in the wild  had about ten times the amount of creatine as the meat from inactive,  domesticated foxes.
Early 20th Cent

It was discovered that not all of the creatine consumed by humans was excreted in the urine; leading to the recognition that creatine is stored in the body.

1912

Researchers found that ingesting creatine can dramatically boost the creatine content of the muscle.

1926 Early research found that the intramuscular stores of creatine can be increased by ingesting creatine in larger than normal amounts.
1927

Researchers discovered creatine phosphate, and             determined that creatine is a key player in  the metabolism of skeletal muscle.

Since 1990, a there has been a sharp increase in the number of studies that have investigated the effect of creatine supplementation  on sports performance.

Your Get Buffed book

Dear Mr.. King,

I just received your Get Buffed book, and I am extremely excited to read it. I have been training for the past 8 years on and off; however, I have gotten to a point, now that I am out of college, where I want to take "working out" to a new level. Actually I would like to change my whole lifestyle at this young age, and discipline myself to lead a much more healthier lifestyle. To tell you the truth I would like to lead the life of a natural bodybuilder, and this is where you have come in. I have been reading up on you, and have finally found someone that has a philosophy that has actually caught my attention and humbled me, to the point where I want to be your student. And this is why I have purchased your book.

I am at a point now in my life where I have physically hit the lowest of lows. First of all, I am trying to recuperate from a heel injury, plus I am taking summer classes that are kicking my butt, and are taking up all my time. But during this time, I have made it a priority to gain knowledge that I never had about the bodybuilding lifestyle. The next time I will be in the gym will be at the end of July, hopefully, but unfortunately. Until then I hope to really gain some knowledge.

Before I end this, I have one very last serious concern/question to ask you. My nutrition sucks. I have no discipline when it comes to my nutrition (I struggle to even eat vegetables-something I want to change), and I was hoping that you could point me in the right direction in terms of an author or book that you would recommend to someone like me, about nutrition...because I am very desperate for knowledge on this above anything else. I was hoping to get this settled first before I dive into your book, and into the actual training aspect of this lifestyle. So I am trying to make an effort, but I need tons of help. A simple name of an author or book that you trust would help me out a lot, if you have the time.

Mr. King, thank you so much for your time, and again for your book. I am really excited, and hope that the next time that I write to you it would be with a success story of the effects of your philosophy on my life!!!

your new student,

Ivan

Ivan - I have always found Michael Colgans book to be valuable (Optimum Sports Nutrition). I am not sure if he has a more recent edition than the one I have (1994). North America has many great nutrition experts, including Eric Serrano, John Berardi, Thomas Incledon, Mauro Di Pasquale etc. However to avoid confusing yourself with everyone's opinions, select one who impresses you or whose information you align with, and follow it!

My calves are very small and don't seem to ever grow

I have enjoyed your workout suggestions so far. I am planning on buying your book on designing workouts. I do have a question. I have been working out with weights for 23 years. I am 39 years old. I'm 5'11" but only weigh 160. My calves are very small and don't seem to ever grow. Any suggestions on what the focus should be (i.e. more exercises, different ones, etc.)?

Thanks.

Jerry Watkins

Jerry - as far as sequencing goes, place your calves at the start of the workout for as long as they prioritizing. Now before you consider your training options even further, ensure that there are no neural or joint related inhibibitions which may be preventing recruitment and therefore growth. A competent physical therapist should be able to help here.

What is the eccentric phase, pushing the load up or lowering it down?

Hello Sir,

I recently purchased Get Buffed, and have read through chapter 13. I have found it very helpful already. I am a beginner, and have a question regarding the timing or tempo prescriptions. For the bench press, say the timing prescription is 613. 6 is for the eccentric phase, but for the bench press, what is the eccentric phase, pushing the load up or lowering it down?

For arm and leg exercises the phases are obvious, but to me, there are exercises like the bench press where the which phase is which action is unclear. Thanks for writing Get Buffed. You have done a lot for a lot of people.

Sincerely,

Chris Ford

Chris - in a pushing movement like bench press and shoulder press, the eccentric phase is the lowering phase, when the bar is coming towards the body. In pulling movements like the rows and lat pulls, the eccentric phase is when the bar is going away from you.

A quick question for Ian regarding creatine supplementation

Hi Ian and Teresa

A quick question for Ian regarding creatine supplementation. When on the beginners cycle you present in your book, with the ascending and descending amounts over the 8 week cycle, if I'm doing a 3:1 train to recovery week model, would I still consume the designated daily amount of creatine(40 gms) in the recovery week when I'm not training, or would I stop for that week and then start the next week?

The same would apply for other supplements too (HMB, glutamine), do you recommend stopping intake during recovery weeks?

Marty

Marty

I tend to take recovery weeks off most supplements

I'm trying to locate your 12-wk workout on testosterone.net

Hi Ian,

Thanks again for a great seminar here in NYC. It was good to see you and your family again.

I'm trying to locate your 12-wk workout on testosterone.net and am having some trouble. Can you help me out? Also, wondering the focus of the program. Is it specifically for fat-loss, strength, etc? My needs are for a client wanting to drop approx. 15 pounds while getting more defined.

Thanks,

Linda Kennedy, C.S.C.S.

Linda - thanks for attending our NYC seminars! the workouts are linked off our www.kingsports.net site (see articles). We don't have them all up there but that's a start!

the programs are general programs, but see how they go with your clients - you never know what happens in their life's when they love their workout!

Got Sore Joints?

I am continually amazed by people who train and experience sore joints, yet take no supplements for this joint pain.  Sometimes it's ignorance, sometimes it's a belief that supplements don't work.

Whatever - if you are not taking supplements and you want to live a long, healthy pain free life, and if you currently experience joint pain, you SHOULD be taking at least glucosamine.  Next, for this condition I would recommend high doses of omega 3, and finally a high dose multi-vitamin (the anti-oxidants are the key here).

In summary, get on :

* glucosamine
* omega 3
*antioxidants

All these can be ordered (online for those in North America) by  clicking here.  The specific items you should order are called :

* Procosamine 2
* Bio-omega
* Essentials

Remember, you can order online  (at least in the US or Canada) by clicking here, and at this site go to the 'Shop' icon in the top right hand corner of this page.   If you are not living in North America, you can still order by phone (in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Netherlands and Taiwan).
